Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, home to more than 270,000 residents, ran its finance and supply chain systems on Lawson V10 for years.
With software and hardware end-of-life dates fast approaching though, the county was forced to make a decision: keep paying to maintain a system it would eventually replace, or treat the deadline as the push it needed to finally move to the cloud.
Cumberland turned to RPI Consultants, a long-time ERP partner, to assess options. Together, they ultimately determined the timing was right to move to the cloud with Infor CloudSuite Financial and Supply Management (FSM).
The county came into the project with a long list of requirements: consolidated invoices, out-of-the-box workflow approvals, more flexible reporting, and automatic updates. RPI delivered on all of them and then some.
The engagement started with a pre-planning assessment to right-size the project team, then moved into a full payables redesign and hands-on training to get county staff confident and ready to own the new system.
Shortly after go-live, the results show that this engagement was a successful one. Some highlights include:
- Same-day invoice processing: Physical mail, printed Lawson reports, and a week of waiting were replaced by a fully digital process in FSM.
- Flexible, accessible reporting: An expanded GL structure and embedded analytics put key reports in the hands of team members and gave leadership never-before-seen visibility.
- Automatic updates: With CloudSuite, automatic updates roll out behind the scenes, relieving the county of having to manage aging infrastructure and disruptive upgrade cycles.
With the FSM implementation complete and Cumberland County thriving, Phase 2 of the project is underway, including a CloudSuite GHR and Payroll migration which is currently projected to go live in early 2027.
